Renowned author and city planner, Jane Jacobs, once said about successful urban neighbourhoods: “there must be eyes upon the street, eyes belonging to those we might call the natural proprietors of the street”. Jane Jacobs’s observation of communities became the inspiration for Eyes on the Street.

“We were inspired by global neighbourhoods that have achieved a cohesive community through the efforts of individuals caring for and watching their communal space.”

Set in the courtyard of a residential complex in one of Vancouver’s newest neighbourhoods, two polished stainless steel forms – one 12 and the other 18 feet in height – are placed in a reflecting pool. The highly reflective sculptures are visible from all adjacent buildings and corridors.
