Gathie Falk

Painter, sculptor, and installation and performance artist is one of Canada’s most respected and celebrated artists. She has had more than 50 solo exhibitions, and received countless honours including the Order of Canada, The Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts, and the Audain Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Visual Arts.

“I lived on 51st Avenue in the1960s. On the corner there was a corner grocery store and there was a pile of apples. It was always there. I thought: ‘Wow, that’s really great. That’s a perfect shape: a pyramid. What a wonderful way to pile apples. I can make some – and they’ll be better. Redder! Dark ones and really red ones.”
